Car Rental Questions

Q. What will I need to pick up the car?

A. You will need your booking reference number (this will be provided when you reserve your car on this site), a valid driver's licence and a credit card.

 

Q. How does the insurance work?

A. You are covered for all mandatory insurances, with an excess - as is common with most car rental companies. The excess varies according to the size of car you are renting. You will have the option to reduce this excess - more information will be available when you pick up the car.

 

Q. I am travelling in a group. Can we share the driving?

A. This is possible as long as the additional driver(s) has a full valid driving licence and meets all other criteria such as age etc.

 

Q. What's the difference between automatic and manual transmissions?

 A. A manual transmission (stick shift) requires you to change gears in the car yourself. A car with automatic transmission changes gears by itself. It was once the preserve of only biiger more luxurious cars, but nowadays it can be specified in almost all size of car!

 

Q. I want to get a sat nav. How do I go about this?

A. You can rent a GPS sat nav from Budget for €15 per day (pending availability). Budget offer Garmin GPS systems which are very intuitive and easy to follow. If you miss a turn, the Garmin will re-route you in seconds! Simply ask at the desk when you are picking up your rental car.

 

Q. How will barrier-free tolling affect me if I use the M50 Motorway?

A. If you use the cross the M50 toll bridge in a rental car, there will no longer be a barrier and you can't pay the toll using cash. A camera will record the rental car registration number. You have until 8pm the next day to pay the toll. 

A hire car costs €3.00 whilst vehicles with 8 seats or costs €3.80. Further charges will be incurred if toll is not paid on time.
